The book the Readiness Stack grew out of. Written by Gareth Jude and Andrew Smith, it is the thinking these frameworks came from, for the people who actually have to make change happen in stores.

The book argued that retailers' execution DNA is an innovation advantage rather than an obstacle, that purpose is the foundation innovation has to be built on, and that getting an idea from concept to something embedded needs a repeatable process. The six stages in the book became ReFRAME. The purpose chapters became CLEAR.
What has changed is AI. It made readiness unforgiving in a way the book did not have to reckon with, and it made the people side of the problem large enough to need its own model. That is GRIT, and it is new since. If you read the book today, read it as where the thinking started, and read The AI Readiness Gap as where it is now.
This book is a how-to guide for retailers to learn how to transform their business and create real value for the customer.
