The Readiness Stack

Readiness can be measured. And it can be built.

The ThinkUncommon Readiness Stack is a three-part model for retail organisational readiness. CLEAR builds purpose readiness, GRIT builds human readiness, and ReFRAME turns both into delivered work. Together they make the difference between a technology investment that delivers and one that people work around.

How the three fit together

The order matters more than it looks.

ReFRAME is the engine, and it runs on the two foundations. If it starts on unclear purpose or unready people, you tend to get a lot of motion without much movement. Many transformation programmes end up there, through no fault of the people running them.

CLEAR asks whether you should. GRIT asks whether your people can. ReFRAME asks whether your organisation will. A retailer strong in two and broken in one still ends up with unused technology, which is why the diagnostic reads across all three.

CLEAR

Are you Clear?

Is your purpose clear enough that you can aim technology at something that matters, rather than at whatever demos well?

CLEAR is ThinkUncommon's purpose clarity methodology. It helps you build a working sense of purpose, translated into experience principles and a simple decision playbook the whole organisation can believe in and use. It is not a mission statement exercise. It gives you something you can use in daily decisions, where the trade-offs actually get made.

GRIT

Are you Human Ready?

Are your people ready to trust it, and ready to be trusted with it?

GRIT is ThinkUncommon's human readiness framework. It looks after the four conditions that decide whether change is carried by the organisation or set aside once the consultants leave: Leadership, Culture, Capability and Frontline Trust. Each is read as Broken, Fragile or Strong.

ReFRAME

Are you Process Ready?

Is there a repeatable way to get from a promising pilot to something the organisation uses without being told to?

ReFRAME is ThinkUncommon's process readiness methodology, used across four continents. A repeatable six-stage method for taking an idea through to something embedded in how you work, where embedded means people choose to use it without being reminded.

Questions

The things people ask before they call.

What is the ThinkUncommon Readiness Stack?+

The Readiness Stack is a three-part model for retail organisational readiness. CLEAR builds purpose readiness, GRIT builds human readiness, and ReFRAME is the six-stage method that turns both into delivered, embedded work. Many transformation programmes struggle with the first two and blame the third.

What is the difference between CLEAR, GRIT and ReFRAME?+

CLEAR acts on purpose, GRIT acts on people, and ReFRAME acts on the work itself. CLEAR and GRIT are foundations that shape whether an initiative can take hold in the organisation. ReFRAME is the engine that runs on top of them.

Where do I start if I do not know which framework I need?+

Start with the free Readiness Diagnostic. It takes about five minutes, covers all three pillars, and tells you which one is holding you back. Many organisations are surprised by the answer. That is usually where the useful conversation starts.

What happens to my answers?+

Your results are shown on screen the moment you finish, and sent to you by email if you ask for them. We keep an anonymised record so the benchmark gets richer each year. If you would like to talk your results through, there is one line on the results page for that, and it is up to you.

Can my whole leadership team take it?+

Yes, and it works best that way. Ask your leadership team and a few store managers to take it, then compare notes. The gap between what leaders believe and what the frontline reports is usually the most useful thing in it.

How long does a ThinkUncommon engagement take?+

It depends on which framework you are building and how big the organisation is. What does not vary is the end point. The engagement finishes when the capability is embedded and running without us, not when the contract expires.

What does the free Readiness Diagnostic measure?+

It measures your position across all three pillars of the Readiness Stack and returns a state for each one, Broken, Fragile or Strong. Broken will block or damage the work. Fragile works in calm conditions and cracks under pressure. Strong is solid enough to build on, even when things move fast.
