GRIT

Are you Human Ready?

Are your people ready to trust it, and ready to be trusted with it?

GRIT is ThinkUncommon's human readiness framework. It looks after the four conditions that decide whether change is carried by the organisation or set aside once the consultants leave: Leadership, Culture, Capability and Frontline Trust. Each is read as Broken, Fragile or Strong, and the pattern across the four tells you where to begin.

What weak human readiness looks like in a store

If any of this sounds familiar.

GRIT tests whether the people who will lead, support and use the technology are actually ready for it. Frontline Trust is measured directly: whether associates trust the data, trust the tools, and trust how both will be used. That is where most of the workarounds start.

.01The people in stores quietly work around it.The tool is live, the paper list is back, and the WhatsApp group is where the real work happens.
.02Nobody can stop a pilot without it counting against them.So nothing gets stopped, and nothing gets learned.
.03Training was a slide deck.People have seen the tool explained. They have not used it in a real shift, with a real queue.
The model

Four conditions, four stages.

The four conditions are what GRIT measures. The four stages are how you build them: Ground reads the conditions as they are, then Ready, Iterate and Thread strengthen them around one real change. The assessment scores the conditions, and the stages give you the work to do about them.

.01LeadershipAre leaders clear, and do they model the behaviour they ask for?
.02CultureIs it safe to speak up, try things, and treat failure as learning?
.03CapabilityDo people have confidence and skills built through practice, not slideware?
.04Frontline TrustDo frontline people believe the change benefits them, and are they heard?
GGroundSee clearly before you move. The assessment lives here.
RReadyBuild the conditions before you build the thing.
IIterateExperiment, learn, and earn the right to scale.
TThreadEmbed what works so the value compounds.
How we read the results

Broken, Fragile or Strong.

BrokenWill block or damage the work. People route around the change, and leaders hear about it last.
FragileWorks in calm conditions, cracks under pressure. Adoption holds while someone is watching.
StrongSolid enough to build on, even when things move fast. People choose to use it without being told.

GRIT Assessment

Sixteen statements across the four conditions, about six minutes, results on screen. You get a state for each condition and the pattern across them, which usually tells you where to start.
